You’ve got a Friend at City Hall – and at the City Pools!

By City Manager Ken Striplin

There is no better place to cool off this summer than at one of the City of Santa Clarita’s eight pools. While you are there, swimming and splashing, make sure you say hi to your friends at City Hall, our lifeguards and aquatic staff!

The City has 130 lifeguards on staff during the summer months to keep pool patrons safe, in and out of the water. These helpful staffers are available to answer any questions you may have during your trip to the pool. Our lifeguards are also swimming instructors and can help your kids become comfortable in the water, improve their strokes for competitive swim or even help non-swimmers of any age get confident in the water.

There are so many opportunities at our pools this summer, whether you are looking for a water workout, such as lap swim, water exercise or even H2Oga! (yoga on a floating mat). One of the most popular spots at our City pools is the activity pool at the Aquatic Center, which is one of three pools at that site. The activity pool is home to the 160-foot waterslide, which kids of all ages, at least 48” tall, enjoy sliding down. For younger water-lovers, there is a wet and wild play area with a smaller slide and spray features. Just steps away from the activity pool is the dive pool offering two 1-meter and one 3-meter diving boards to hone your skills. There is also the 50-meter pool, which is perfect for lap swim.

Make sure you check out the pages of the Summer Seasons magazine to see the other programs and events offered at City pools. You can try AquaZumba, which blends water aerobics with popular Zumba dance moves and tunes. Another unique offering is Underwater Hockey. This low-impact, co-ed sport encourages all to play and test their skills in a unique crossover sports activity.

The Santa Clarita Pool on Seco Canyon Road and the North Oaks Pool on Camp Plenty Road are hosting Free Float and Flick events this summer. You can enjoy an evening floating in the pool while watching a movie on the big screen.

If you have questions on any of these fun and active ways to cool off this summer, please reach out to our City staff in aquatics. Your Friends at City Hall are ready to help you find the program or event that matches your interest and skill level. To find out more about all the City pools have to offer, please visit santa-clarita.com/aquatics or give them a call at (661) 250-3740.
