City of Santa Clarita Press Release

City of Santa Clarita to Commemorate Service and Sacrifice During Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to join the Santa Clarita City Council for a special Veterans Day Ceremony to honor local veterans, currently serving military and their families on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m., at Veterans Historical Plaza, located at 24275 N. Walnut Street in Old Town Newhall.

This year’s ceremony carries a special meaning as the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States Armed Forces – specifically the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have answered the call to serve, protect and defend the freedoms we hold dear. That legacy of service is what makes this Veterans Day especially significant.

The ceremony will feature remarks from members of the Santa Clarita City Council and Congressman George Whitesides. Jerry Rhodes, representative of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 355, will offer a special reading in honor of prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA). Musical performances will be provided by Hartbeat, a Hart High School mixed acapella choir, and the event will include a formal changing of the flags by the Knights of Columbus Santa Clarita Assembly, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 355 and Santa Clarita Valley Young Marines.

The Veterans Day Ceremony is a collaboration between the City of Santa Clarita and American Legion, Post 507, Blue Star Mothers of America, Santa Clarita Chapter #46, College of the Canyons Veterans Program, Knights of Columbus, Santa Clarita Assembly 2421, Prayer Angels for the Military, Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial, Inc., Santa Clarita Valley Veteran Services Collaborative, Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 355 and Santa Clarita Valley Young Marines.
