The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here. Years ago, the dream of bringing a roller-skating facility to Santa Clarita was a mere concept shared by our City Council and community. That idea grew into a vision, and after years of planning and construction, we are ready to open the doors to The Rink Sports Pavilion.
This is truly a full-circle moment for our City.
The Rink is a more than 25,000-square-foot facility featuring a 12,000-square-foot skating surface. The space also includes three pickleball courts, a volleyball court, a basketball court and seating for spectators, giving our community even more ways to stay active and spend time together.
For more than two years, we have watched The Rink take shape from the ground up. More than 500 professionals contributed their expertise to bring this project to life. From engineers, grading consultants, electricians and plumbers to our Building & Safety team, Recreation staff and many others, this facility is the result of tremendous collaboration. On behalf of the City of Santa Clarita, I want to thank everyone who played a role in turning this vision into reality.
Now, I am excited to share that the much-anticipated grand opening of The Rink Sports Pavilion will take place on Friday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m. Our City Council will officially open the facility with a traditional ribbon cutting, followed by a skating demo. Later that evening, residents will officially have the chance to register for a public skate session and get rolling under the lights of the massive disco ball.
When those doors officially open, there will be plenty for our community to discover. The skating floor is ready, along with the restrooms, drinking fountains, a commercial kitchen, DJ booth, dining areas and, of course, one of the facility’s signature features, the disco ball.
But what I am most excited about is what will happen inside this building in the years ahead. Residents will have the opportunity to learn how to skate, practice a new sport, spend time with friends or simply “hang out at The Rink.” It will be a place where our community can come together, stay active and have fun.
The Rink is another example of the City’s continued commitment to investing in recreational opportunities and spaces our residents can call their own. I have no doubt that countless memories will be made here, from a child lacing up a pair of skates for the first time to families and friends gathering together for years to come.
I look forward to seeing our community walk through those doors and begin creating memories.
