City of Santa Clarita Press Release

Get Involved with Your City!

By City Manager Ken Striplin

As Santa Clarita moves farther into 2024, a year that holds significant promise and change, community engagement has never been more crucial. With important elections on the horizon, this is the perfect time for residents to get informed, involved and inspired about the future of our City. The upcoming State of the City event is not just a celebration of our accomplishments but also an invitation to every member of our community to take an active role in shaping what comes next.

This year’s theme, “Gold Medal City,” reflects our drive for excellence in every endeavor. Santa Clarita continues to earn accolades and provide outstanding amenities to our residents. Held at the beautiful Canyon Country Community Center, the State of the City event will offer a unique opportunity to hear directly from the City Council about key projects that will shape the future of Santa Clarita. This includes the unveiling of the new Valencia Community Center in the former YMCA building at Summit Park. This Center will offer a range of programs, including preschool and afterschool activities, fitness and enrichment classes and our City’s first indoor pool.

Another major initiative on the horizon is the transition of William S. Hart Regional Park from the County of Los Angeles to the City of Santa Clarita. Taking ownership of this historic park will allow us to preserve its legacy and ensure it continues to serve as a gathering place for residents of all ages. This transfer of ownership highlights our commitment to expanding and enhancing recreational spaces for everyone, as well as preserving our Valley’s rich, western heritage.

Our ongoing improvements extend beyond parks and community centers. We’re proud to have completed several key infrastructure projects, including the addition of two new bridges along the Sand Canyon Trail to improve accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. The completion of the annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Program demonstrates our dedication to maintaining our roadways, while the Town Center Specific Plan and energy efficiency projects showcase our focus on sustainable and strategic growth.

The State of the City event is your chance to learn more about these projects, as well as other initiatives that are shaping Santa Clarita’s future. With the 2024 election approaching, it’s vital to stay informed and engaged. Understanding where the City is headed and how current projects align with our long-term vision is key to making informed decisions that will impact our community for years to come.

Join us for an afternoon of community engagement, where you can connect with fellow residents, ask questions and hear from our City leaders. The event will take place on Thursday, October 17, at 3:00 p.m., at the Canyon Country Community Center (18410 Sierra Highway). Tickets are $40 per person or $400 for a table of ten. To purchase tickets, please visit SantaClarita.gov/SOTC. Be part of the conversation, and let’s go for gold together as we shape the future of Santa Clarita!
