One of the City’s top priorities is to raise awareness of the consequences of unsafe driving every day of the year. Actions taken in a split second can change the trajectory of our lives. The results of shooting a quick text or closing your eyes while driving can be life-altering. Far too many lives, especially young ones, have been lost in traffic-related incidents because of these careless actions taken due to unsafe driving.
Yet, these young lives are never forgotten. Located in the heart of Central Park is a serene, living memorial, the Youth Grove (27150 Bouquet Canyon Road), a space dedicated to honoring the lives of our youth who have passed in tragic traffic-related accidents. The Youth Grove features more than 120 tree-stump-shaped pillars—each one representing a young life taken too soon. Each one represents stories that remind us why safe driving matters. Each one serves as a lasting reminder that every good choice while behind the wheel has the power to save a life. At the center stands a monument with a simple but powerful message: Know More, so No More. Know more about safe driving habits so no more young lives are lost. These engraved words serve as both a memorial to the lives lost and a powerful call to action for safer driving. They are a reflection of Santa Clarita’s commitment to youth safety.
On August 26 at 7:15 p.m., I invite you to join one of the most meaningful and powerful events we hold as a City. The Evening of Remembrance brings together City officials, law enforcement, families and members of the community to honor and remember the young lives of those we have lost due to traffic-related incidents, sadly adding three new names to the Youth Grove this year. It is a time of reflection where we share stories and reflect on the impact these tragedies have had on families and the community. The evening begins with the Walk of Remembrance at 7:15 p.m., a quiet, reflective procession that brings the community together in support of families who have experienced unimaginable loss.
Following the walk, attendees will gather for a heartfelt ceremony, featuring personal reflections, youth voices, musical performances and tributes honoring those remembered in the Youth Grove. One of the most impactful moments is the Forever Young slideshow, a testament to the lives lost. It is a powerful reminder that traffic safety is a shared responsibility.
We must all do our part to be safe on the road so that our loved ones, friends and community members arrive at their destinations safely. Avoid distracted and impaired driving by putting the phone down, following the speed limit and calling a ride-share service when under the influence. What may seem like an inconvenience to you could save a life and ensure your safety and the safety of the community.
