Registered Participants Can Bring in Broken Items to be Repaired by Volunteers for Free
The City of Santa Clarita is hosting a free Fix-It Clinic to promote the repair and reuse of everyday items, extending their lifespan and keeping them out of the landfill. Residents can bring in broken items to be assessed by a volunteer fixer who can take apart, diagnose and potentially fix the item. The Fix-It Clinic will be held on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Valencia Library Branch (23743 Valencia Blvd). Even if an item cannot be repaired, attendees learn valuable troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Broken, reusable household items such as small appliances, bicycles, jewelry and textiles can be diverted from a landfill by being repaired for reuse. Registration is strongly encouraged. Walk-ins will be taken on a case-by-case basis depending on availability. Each registered participant may bring in one item to be repaired. Register at City.sc/FixIt.
Whether you are a natural problem-solver, have a knack for tinkering or are an expert in a particular field, sign up to be a volunteer fixer. Fixers help residents better understand how their item works and how it can be repaired so it doesn’t end up in the trash. Event volunteers are also needed to ensure the event runs smoothly. Fixers and event volunteers must be at least 18-years-old. Register as a volunteer at City.sc/FixItClinicVolunteer.
The Friends of the Santa Clarita Library will also have a variety of DIY and other related books available for sale. In addition, Environmental Services will have an information booth including resources and program information, and Santa Clarita Public Library staff will host a craft table to make beeswax paper.
