City of Santa Clarita Press Release

City and Hart District Partner to Expand Pickleball Access

Eight Pickleball Courts at Placerita Junior High Open for Community Weekend Use October 3

Pickleball continues to take the country by storm, and Santa Clarita residents will soon have eight more courts to enjoy on the weekends. The sport has ranked as the fastest-growing sport in the United States for five consecutive years, with players increasingly spanning all age groups.

To help meet the growing demand locally, the City of Santa Clarita has partnered with the William S. Hart Union High School District to make eight new pickleball overlay courts at Placerita Junior High School available for community use on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The new courts cost $84,000 and were co-founded by the City and School District.

Beginning Saturday, October 3, residents can access the courts through the gate off Newhall Avenue. Use of the courts will be available during designated weekend hours when school activities are not taking place. The eight courts are overlay courts, meaning pickleball lines have been added to existing playing surfaces to allow the space to accommodate multiple recreational uses. Players should bring their own equipment, including paddles, balls and portable pickleball nets.

The new weekend access at Placerita Junior High School is part of the City’s ongoing effort to provide diverse recreational opportunities and creatively maximize community resources through partnerships with local agencies.
