- I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Violet Uzawa Dorio, who passed away on February 24, at the remarkable age of 104.
- Violet was born in British Columbia to Japanese immigrant parents and lived a life shaped by resilience, courage and service.
- As a teenager, her family moved to Japan where they remained throughout World War II.
- Following the war, she served with the American Red Cross in U.S.-occupied Japan, where she met her future husband Carl, an Army Air Corps pilot.
- The two later settled in New York City and became involved in the civil rights movement.
- In 1954, the family moved to Los Angeles, where Violet returned to school to pursue a career in healthcare while raising three sons.
- Later in life, Violet moved to Santa Clarita, where she celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family.
- She was known for her kindness, warmth, strong spirit and love of family, as well as her passion for the Dodgers.
- Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished.
- Two of her sons – Dr. Gene Uzawa Dorio and Dr. Ray Uzawa Dorio – have both practiced right here in the Santa Clarita Valley for four decades.
