Tonight, we adjourn our meeting in memory of Richard A. “Rick” Patterson — a respected attorney, community leader and dedicated champion for the Santa Clarita Valley.
Rick was a founding partner of Owen, Patterson & Owen, a law firm that has served our community and beyond for nearly four decades.
A graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of La Verne College of Law, Rick founded his firm in 1977 and spent his career not only advocating for justice, but also giving back to the community he called home.
Rick and his wife, Ann, raised their eight children here in Santa Clarita, instilling in their family a deep commitment to service.
That spirit extended far beyond his home life. Since 1998, Rick served as President of the Santa Clarita Valley Facilities Foundation, helping generate millions of dollars to support local schools and ensure future generations have access to quality education.
Rick was very involved in his church, where he served in many leadership positions for the Santa Clarita Valley. He worked heavily with the youth and loved being active in all aspects of church service.
He also played a key role in supporting local businesses, including founding Valencia National Bank to serve the needs of small business owners.
In addition, his leadership with the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging helped improve the quality of life for seniors in our community.
Rick’s contributions did not go unnoticed. He received numerous honors throughout his life, including recognition as one of Santa Clarita’s most influential community members and the Dan Hon Memorial Award for his commitment to justice.
More than his professional accomplishments, Rick will be remembered for his generosity, his leadership and his enduring dedication to making Santa Clarita a better place for all.
