Sufia:
Hart High School Graduate
Sufia was an 18-year-old student at William S. Hart High School when she joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program, where she was placed at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Sufia recalls, “From working at Henry Mayo Hospital, I gained a lot of experience in acting professional, helping the medical staff, assisting patients with their needs, and getting to know and understand the inner workings of a hospital. It prepared me and helped me understand what to expect when applying for a job after the YES Program.” Sufia continued to volunteer at the hospital and plans to become a doctor.
Alexis:
Bowman High School Graduate
Alexis was an 18-year-old student at Bowman High School when he joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program.
In the YES program, Alexis was assigned to the Canyon Country Community Center. Alexis worked the TEEN SCENE Program, an afterschool program at La Mesa Junior High. Alexis did so well, that after the YES program ended Alexis was offered a job as a part-time City employee for the Canyon Country Community Center. When asked about what his next steps in his career path would be, he stated “The people I work with are great and I have grown and learned a lot from this job. […] I will attend College of the Canyons and start working on my general education courses until I decide on a career path.” Alexis later graduated from Bowman High School that year.
Ana:
Hart High School Graduate
Ana was a 15-year-old student at Hart High School when she joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program.
In 2005, Ana visited the Newhall Community Center to explore the different programs and events in the City of Santa Clarita. While on her search , she stumbled across the YES Program and immediately joined. Ana was thrilled on everything the program had to offer from learning how to build a resume to gaining work experience at a Medical Clinic in Santa Clarita. Because of the experience she received at the clinic, Ana signed up for a charter college right after high school and began her medical assistant career. When asked about how the YES Program helped her career path, Ana stated “To say that I credit the YES Program for all of the job opportunities I received through the years is an understatement. The YES Program and all the programs I was involved that the city provided me through my teen years are more valuable to me as an adult now than any other skills fair or job training I could ever receive.“ Ana is currently a Clerk for the City of Santa Clarita’s Community and Teen Court Diversion Program.
Brandon:
Hart High School Graduate
Brandon was a 17-year-old student at Hart High School when he joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program.
Brandon was assigned to the MORE Program when he was a YES Participant in 2017. His duties consisted of running an after school program while helping children with their homework and engaging them in various games and activities. When asked about how the YES Program has helped him, Brandon stated “Getting a job through the YES Program allowed me to find my passion in child care. The Yes Program has also taught me how to always be an exceptional employee amongst my co-workers and supervisors.” Brandon is currently a Recreation Leader II in the Youth and Family Programs Department for the City of Santa Clarita.
Stacie:
Hart High School Graduate
Stacie was a 15-year-old student at Hart High School when she joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program.
Stacie was assigned to the Newhall Community Center where she was given the opportunity to conduct child care programming in an after school setting. When asked about how the YES Program guided her career path, Stacie replied “YES provided me with informational workshops, work experience and helped me develop the skills needed to be successful in a professional environment.” Stacie is currently employed by the City of Santa Clarita as a Recreation and Community Services Program Specialist.
Juan:
Hart High School Graduate
Juan was a 16-year-old student at Hart High School when he joined the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program.
Juan was assigned to work at the Newhall Community Center when he was a YES Participant in the Summer of 2017. Juan’s responsibilities consisted of interacting with elementary school children in a Summer Camp setting. Through this experience, Juan was able to learn about the importance of taking initiative and accountability. When asked about how the YES Program has helped his current career path, Juan stated “This program [YES] helped me build great connections for my career path and helped me perform to the highest standards required.” Juan is currently a Code Enforcement Aide for the City of Santa Clarita under the Community Preservation Department.
