There are places in our community where history is not simply remembered, but carefully safeguarded and brought to life every day. William S. Hart Park is one of those rare treasures. For generations, families have walked its trails, visited its animals and stepped inside the historic Ranch House to experience the world of one of early Hollywood’s most influential figures. This land has shaped our identity for more than a century and today, it continues to inspire new memories for residents of all ages.
Last year, the City of Santa Clarita proudly completed the transfer of Hart Park from Los Angeles County. This milestone marks a new chapter in our ongoing commitment to preserving the history, natural beauty and cultural legacy of our community. As its new steward, the City is dedicated to honoring the past while expanding access, programming and opportunities for the community to learn and engage with the Park in meaningful ways.
In 2026, residents will see exciting enhancements and a full calendar of activities designed to connect people of all ages with nature, history and the unique character of Hart Park.
Visitors can reserve Hart Hall for birthday celebrations and wedding ceremonies. They can also experience the area as the early settlers once did – camping out under the stars at one of the many campsites. The picnic areas are also available for a peaceful lunch or family gathering. These spaces will continue to provide families with opportunities to gather, reflect and enjoy the serenity of one of our community’s most historic landscapes.
Educational and recreational programs will be expanded throughout the year. Every Saturday, the park will host free Barnyard Tours, giving children and adults a chance to meet and learn about more than 80 resident animals, including the iconic American bison.
Our Youth Outdoor Adventure Camp is offered during winter, spring and summer breaks, and encourages young explorers to discover local wildlife, trails and hands-on conservation activities. Community Hikes will be offered on select days, inviting residents to explore seven scenic trails while learning about the flora, fauna and stories that define this land.
Through the Agents of Discovery program, visitors will be guided on interactive missions that highlight Hart Park’s rich history, from its beginnings as William S. Hart’s retirement home, to its evolution as a cherished public space. These experiences will deepen understanding of the people and events that shaped our region.
Hart Park will also host a robust lineup of events that celebrate culture, art and community spirit. This year, residents can look forward to the Art Hop Event on March 28, Cowboy Festival on April 18 and April 19, Great American Campout on June 6 and June 7, Hart of the West Pow Wow on October 3 and October 4, Barnyard Light Tour on December 12, City Cinemas on August 28, as well as pet adoption events and the Friends of Hart Park’s popular Silents Under the Stars movie screenings.
Hart Park is more than just a park. It is a living story, one we now have the privilege and responsibility to protect.
As we look to 2026, it is my hope that every resident will rediscover this extraordinary landmark, cherish its history and take part in the many opportunities it offers. Together, we will ensure that Hart Park remains a treasure trove of culture and preservation for generations to come. I invite you to come and visit Hart Park and share in its incredible legacy, a special place for generations to come.
