The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2019:

Highlights include:

  • Proclaimed October 12, 2019, as Rubber Ducky Day to demonstrate the dedication to improving patient care for the underinsured and uninsured of the Santa Clarita Valley.
  • Adopted an ordinance to the Santa Clarita Municipal Code concerning street trees, to allow for the transfer of ownership and maintenance responsibility for select trees in limited circumstances to private property owners.
  • Adopted an ordinance to increase Councilmember compensation by a total of 10 percent effective 2021.
  • Approved a one-year lease agreement with MAGA L.P. for the rental of The MAIN with a one-year optional renewal in the amount not to exceed $60,360 annually.
  • Awarded a two-year contract to Flo-Services, Inc., for preventative maintenance, inspection, and repair services for a total two-year amount not to exceed $175,266.
  • Adopted an urgency ordinance to place a 45-day moratorium on new tobacco retailers who sell flavored tobacco products in the City of Santa Clarita.Staff was directed to set a public hearing and return within 45 days with a further report and ordinance extending this moratorium for Council consideration.
