The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 26, 2014:

CONSENT CALENDAR

  1. Approval of joint City Council and Board of Library Trustees minutes from the July 8, 2014 meetings – Approved 
  2. Award contract to Interwest Consulting Group to assist the City’s Building & Safety Division as needed with inspections and plan review of new construction during periods of high construction activity – Approved
  3. Adopt an updated resolution authorizing the City to submit the Valley Vista Acquisition Project for an environmental grant application, per Caltrans’ request for language clarification – Approved
  4. Acceptance of a $26,749 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, which allows state and local governments to support a range of activities to prevent crime based on local needs  – Approved
  5. Adopt a resolution authorizing the City to submit a grant application for partial funding through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District to enhance Old Orchard Park – Approved  
  6. Adopt a resolution authorizing the City to partner with the California Wildlife Conservation Board and the Trust for Public Land to submit a grant application to help fund the purchase of 302+ acres in the Newhall Pass – Approved  
  7. Approve a ground lease agreement with Santa Clarita Studios to use approximately 3.5 acres of City-owned land adjacent to the Studio lot for parking – Approved  
  8. Award a one-year contract to Mobile Illumination to create a unique holiday destination in Old Town Newhall, similar to 2013 – Approved  
  9. Check registers Nos. 14, 15, and 16 – Approved  

PUBLIC HEARINGS

10.   Adopt a resolution self-certifying the City is compliant with the State-mandated Congestion Management Program (CMP) to decrease traffic congestion – City Council opened public hearing and adopted resolution self-certifying City of Santa Clarita’s compliance.  

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

11.   Nominate and appoint three regular positions on each of the following: Planning Commission, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, Arts Commission, and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel – Mayor Weste, Mayor Pro Tem McLean, and Councilmember Acosta made nominations, and City Council made appointments.

FUTURE MEETINGS

Regular City Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.  The next regular meeting will on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
