The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2015:

CONSENT CALENDAR

  1. Approval of Joint City Council and Board of Library Trustees minutes from the March 10, 2015 meetings. – Approved 
  2. Approve the proposed Sewer System Management Plan document, which was updated to remain in compliance with the terms of the California Water Resources Control Board permit – Approved
  3. Award contract to MNS Engineers, Inc. for the Railroad Avenue Bike Trail Design Concept which will study the proposed Class 1 bike trail along the east side of Railroad Avenue from Lyons Avenue to Oak Ridge Drive. – Approved 
  4. Approve acquisition of 173.54 acres of property for open space preservation and the improvement of trail connectivity throughout the Newhall Pass. – Approved 
  5. Approve plans for and award contract to A.M.G., Inc. for the North Oaks Park and Valencia Glen Park Pool Renovations Project which will improve safety and efficiency in both pools. – Approved 
  6. Award contract to ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance for the purchase and installation of 80 smart irrigation controllers to support operations in Landscape Maintenance District Zones transferred to the City from Los Angeles County in 2012. – Approved
  7. Check register No. 6 – Approved 

NEW BUSINESS

8.   Receive report from staff informed by Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. and discuss alternatives for the Red-Light Photo Enforcement Program. – The City Council approved Alternative Action No. 3 allowing for the expiration of the current contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc., and discontinue the Red-Light Photo Enforcement Program. 
9.   Request Los Angeles Interoperable Communications System conduct a public outreach to residents and property owners who will be affected by all proposed LA-RICS telecommunications tower sites within in the City of Santa Clarita, and to respond to, address and remediate concerns raised, and consider an alternative site location for the proposed tower at Fire Station 108. Request the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors take action to prohibit the co-location of commercial communication equipment at LA-RICS towers. Adopt a resolution to withdraw the City of Santa Clarita from membership in the LA-RICS Joint Powers Authority. – The City Council took action to authorize the preparation of a letter to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors indicating the Council’s opposition to the construction of telecommunication towers sites anywhere in the City of Santa Clarita and adopted a Resolution formally withdrawing the City as a member of the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System Joint Powers Authority.

FUTURE MEETINGS

Regular City Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.  The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
