Community Services

 Purpose of Community Services

Community Services is part of the City’s Recreation and Community Services Department. Staff oversee the City’s Community Centers in Newhall and Canyon Country, as well as the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program, Community Court Juvenile Diversion Program, DFY in SCV Drug Prevention Program and a wide variety of neighborhood programs and events.

The main goal of Community Services is to enhance the quality of life in Santa Clarita by providing accessible, affordable enrichment and recreation opportunities for youth and families. These activities happen at local Community Centers and directly in neighborhoods. Staff also facilitate collaboration between the City of Santa Clarita and citywide resources (like school and non-profit agency staff) to provide targeted outreach and enrichment programs for youth and families in Santa Clarita. The Community Court program provides youth with first-time minor traffic and criminal violations with a second chance and the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program helps teens get their first job and learn valuable job skills to set them up for success.

Three Areas of Focus:

  1. Connect residents to their neighbors, local resource agencies, and City programs and services
  2. Create opportunities for recreation and enrichment that are accessible and affordable
  3. Cultivate job and life skills to set teens up for success!

In short, your friends in Community Services find creative ways to provide opportunities for residents of all ages to learn, grow and play!
