As part of the City’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the federal government makes available to residents in floodplains, federally backed flood insurance. This insurance covers damage from events such as flash flooding, inland flooding, storm surges, and seasonal storms. Most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover damage caused by these types of events.
Policies are available in three forms: dwelling (homes and individual condominium units), general property (other residential buildings (apartments, etc.) and businesses), and the residential condominium building association policy form (residential condominium buildings). Renters are also eligible to purchase a flood insurance policy.
