Message from Mayor Cameron Smyth
Cameron Smyth is a Santa Clarita native. He was born and raised in the City and attended all local schools. After graduating college, Smyth immediately engaged with his community by coaching high school volleyball and football. Elected to the Santa Clarita City Council in 2000, Smyth served six years, including two terms as mayor, focusing on public safety, economic development and expanding parks and recreation programs.
In 2006, Smyth transitioned to the California State Legislature as an Assemblyman for the 38th District. He earned a reputation as a bipartisan leader and became the only Republican to chair a major policy committee as Chairman of the Assembly Local Government Committee in 2010. After his six-year term, Smyth returned to the private sector in 2012. He remains active in the community through various organizations, including the Santa Clarita Valley Athletic Association, AYSO, PTA, College of the Canyons and the Henry Mayo Hospital Foundation.
