Who is eligible for Community/Teen Court?
The Community Court and Teen Court Diversion Programs are for first-time, non-violent, juveniles who have committed a misdemeanor offense or traffic violation and live in the Santa Clarita Valley. Youth must admit to the traffic violation or citation charge to participate and all participants including parents/guardians must adhere to the code of conduct to participate and remain in the program.
Simply put, the offender must be:
- Between the ages of 13-17 years.
- Have no prior criminal convictions.
- Reside within the Santa Clarita Valley.
- Have no known affiliations with a gang.
- Have not committed a violent offense.
- Willing to admit guilt and participate in program.
- Willing to follow program dress code and code of conduct.
All citations must be screened for eligibility and referred to court staff through the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department. Other agency/individual/parent referrals to the program are not accepted.
Community/Teen Court staff will notify you of your child’s eligibility and program details by mail and/or phone. You may choose NOT to participate in the Community/Teen Court Diversion program. If so, your case will be referred back to the Sheriff’s Department.
