The following is a recap of the City Council regular meeting on January 14, 2025:
Highlights of action taken include:
- Proclaimed January 20, 2025, as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
- Nominated and approved the appointment of Timothy Burkhart, Pamela Verner, and Nathan Keith to the Planning Commission; Dennis Sugasawara and Hugo Cherre to the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission; Tracey Thompson and Jeri Seratti to the Arts Commission; and Jose Benito Martinez III and David Hegg to the Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel.
- Authorized the City Manager to execute certain documents confirming the City of Santa Clarita’s consent for Burrtec Waste Industries utilizing landfills other than the Chiquita Canyon Landfill for solid waste disposal.
- Accepted the Fiscal Year 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $20,737.
- Awarded a construction contract to Estate Design & Construction for a total contract amount not to exceed $487,705, for the North Oaks Park and Santa Clarita Park Pool Deck Repair and Replacement Project P0027.
- Awarded a contract to Annette Coleman in the amount of $80,000 for the civic art piece, “Kaleidoscope Sound Hallway,” to be located at The Rink Sports Pavilion.
- Awarded a construction contract to SGD Enterprises DBA Four Seasons Landscaping, for a total contract amount not to exceed $1,963,685, for the 2024-25 Citywide Major Thoroughfare Median Refurbishment, Plum Canyon Road, Project B4009.
- Adjourned the meeting in-memoriam of Sammy Thurman-Brackenbury.

December 10, 2024
The following is a recap of the City Council special meeting on December 10, 2024:
- Outgoing Mayor Cameron Smyth was honored with presentations.
- The Oath of Office was administered to newly elected and appointed Councilmembers Patsy Ayala and Jason Gibbs.
- Councilmembers Bill Miranda and Laurene Weste were nominated and sworn in as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for the upcoming year.

Highlights of action taken include:
- Presented a Key to the City to outgoing Senator Scott Wilk.
- Adopted a resolution amending the budgets for Fiscal Year 2023-24 and Fiscal Year 2024-25.
- Adopted the Santa Clarita 2025 Executive and Legislative Platform, which provides guidance to staff on legislative and regulatory issues of interest to the City Council.
- Authorized the City Manager to execute several agreements related to the Via Princessa Park, Project P3033, including a Measure W Fund Transfer Agreement with the Los Angeles County Flood Control District, License Agreement with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, sewer easements with the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District and maintenance access easements with adjacent property owners.
- Awarded a construction contract to AMG and Associates, Inc., for a total contract amount not to exceed $23,708,300, for The Rink Sports Pavilion Phase II, Project P3034.
- Awarded a design-build contract to Great Western Installations, Inc., to design and build a play area at Begonias Lane Park, for a total contract amount not to exceed $1,114,347.

Highlights of action taken include:
- Proclaimed November 30, 2024, as Small Business Saturday.
- Held a Public Hearing and amended the Eastside Bridge and Major Thoroughfare Construction Fee District.
- Approved several items pertaining to the acquisition of right-of-way for the Dockweiler Drive Extension project, S3023.
- Approved the naming of +/- 169 acres of open space in honor of the John Hartigan Family.
- Approved the Local Appointments List and declared vacancies on the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission; Arts Commission; and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel.
- Awarded a building assessment contract to HH Fremer Architects, Inc. for the Former Senior Center, project F0006, for a total contract amount not to exceed $146,300.
- Approved an agreement with the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging (Senior Center) in the amount of $525,000, to support home-delivered meals, transit-related services, and recreation, health, and wellness programs for seniors.
- Adjourned the meeting in-memoriam of John Christopher Hartigan.

- Recognized the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley on its 50th anniversary.
- Recognized Chick-fil-a Valencia for being named a 2024 Recycling All-Star by Burrtec Waste Industries.
- Approved a two-year contract with an option for two, one-year renewals with Flock Group, Inc. for the lease of 35 Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader cameras, for a total contract amount not to exceed $511,250.
- Awarded a design contract to MNS Engineers, Inc., for the Safe Routes to School, Placerita Junior High School and Hart High School, Project C2030, for a total contract amount not to exceed $212,740.
- Adjourned the meeting in-memoriam of Audrey Quiros, Dr. Lester A. Tanner, Grace Elliott, and Steve Zimmer

- Conducted a public hearing on the continuation of the appeal of the Promenade Flats Mixed-Use Project and adopted a resolution denying the appeal and affirming the project.
- Conducted a public hearing and a conformance review on the Riverview Project, located at the current Saugus Speedway property, and continued the matter to the next regular City Council meeting.
- Adopted a resolution supporting the designation of the City of Santa Clarita as a Clean California Community.
