The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 13, 2016:

Highlights of action taken include:

  • Awarded a contract for the architectural and landscape design for the new community center in Canyon Country.
  • Awarded a one-year contract to administer the annual levy administration of Special Districts.
  • Awarded a construction contract for the Fair Oaks Park improvements project.
  • Approved contract authorization increases related to the installation of new plant material in various Landscape Maintenance District zones.
  • Approved a resolution to establish a 400-feet no-stopping anytime zone along the east side of Railroad Avenue just north of 15th Street.
  • Accepted the donation of conservation easements on City-owned open space land in Elsmere Canyon Open Space.
  • Held a public hearing and adopted a resolution to adjust Consolidated Fire Protection District developer fees.
  • Received a presentation regarding options to fill the City Council vacancy.  The City Council will proceed with an appointment process.
  • Adopted a moratorium ordinance pertaining to private marijuana cultivation and non-medical marijuana facilities.
  • During the special meeting, Cameron Smyth was appointed Mayor and Laurene Weste was appointed Mayor Pro Tem.

November 22, 2016

The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 22, 2016:

Highlights of action taken include:

  • Accepted the 2016 Citizens’ Options for Public Safety Grant (COPS) Program funds.
  • Awarded a one-year contract for trash maintenance and general cleaning services for 262 bus stops.
  • Awarded contracts for the purchase and delivery of five compressed natural gas (CNG) powered commuter buses and eight CNG powered local buses.
  • Adopted a resolution to install a multiway stop control for the intersection of Vista Ridge Drive and Farrow Drive.
  • Adopted a resolution to establish a 25-foot-on-street passenger loading zone in front of the Canterbury Village Senior Apartments on Avenida Rotella.
  • Awarded various contracts for the construction of the new Sheriff’s Station.
  • Approved the Local appointments List, including all ongoing boards, commissions, and committees appointed by the City Council, and approved the recruitment process for the vacancies.
  • Public hearing held to annex six parcels into the Streetlight Maintenance District No. 1.

  • Awarded a one-year contract for tree maintenance services for all City maintained trees.
  • Awarded a one-year contract for landscape maintenance services for zones 20 and 21.
  • Adopted the City Council Legislative Committee’s recommendation to oppose Proposition 57: The Public Safety and Rehabilitation Act of 2016.
  • Awarded a five year contract for records storage services.
  • Held a public hearing and adopted the 2016 California Building Standards Code with local amendments.

  • Approved the purchase of approximately 52 acres of property located in the Golden Valley Ranch area.
  • Completed the first reading of an ordinance to adopt the 2016 California Building Standards Code with local amendments.

  • Approved a 25-year Lease Agreement with the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley at Newhall Memorial Park.
  • Approved a one-year Public Television Management Services Agreement with Santa Clarita Valley Television.
  • Accepted the 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds.
  • Adopted a resolution establishing 385 feet of a no-stopping anytime zone along the east side of Bouquet Canyon Road south of Cinema Drive.
  • Awarded a two-year Janitorial Services Contract for various City-owned facilities.
  • Held a public hearing to approve the development of an 8.6 acre commercial property located at the southwest corner of Rio Norte Drive and Newhall Ranch Road.
  • Approved the Arts Commission Work Plan and the proposal for the Public Art Planning and Selection Process.

  • Held a public hearing to adopt a Tax Equity and Financial Responsibility Act Resolution to approve the tax-exempt financing for the construction of a new patient tower at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
  • Amended an agreement with Antelope Valley Workforce Development Consortium through December 31, 2016, to continue providing services through America’s Job Center.

May 24, 2016

The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 24, 2016:

Highlights of action taken include:

  • Approval of the plans and contract for the replacement of the Santa Clarita Special Districts’ Administration Facility Roof.
  • Awarded the conceptual design contract for the Vista Canyon Multi-Modal Center/Metrolink Station.
  • Awarded a three-year contract for Auditing Services.
  • Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between the County of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Clarita for the joint funding of a new 44,000 square foot Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
  • The City Council also took action on the proposed “Veterans Memorial Wall” by directing City staff to review the existing design of the memorial, develop multiple design options which complement the existing Veterans Historical Plaza, identify appropriate locations within the Plaza where such a memorial wall may be placed, and bring this matter back to the City Council for further direction.

The following is an overview from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 9, 2016:

  • Approval of a contract with the Voyager Fleet Card program which provides fleeting fueling services for the City’s fleet vehicles.
  • Awarding of a design contract to Alta Planning + Design for the Sand Canyon Trail Design, Phases IV and VI which will improve trails from Placerita Canyon Road to Sky Ranch Road.
  • First reading of an ordinance amending the Municipal Code regarding alternate members of the Manufactured Home Rental Adjustment Panel.
  • City Council discussed the sale and development of the redevelopment block in Old Town Newhall, and approved the purchase, sale and grant agreement with Laemmle Newhall, LLC. and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Clarita for the proposed Laemmle Theatre Project.

  • Approval of the renaming of the “Cross Valley Connector” to “Santa Clarita Veterans Parkway”
  • Approval of the 2016 Community Services and Arts Grants Committee’s program funding recommendations
  • Approval of an amendment to the loan agreement between the City and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency
  • Approval of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2014-2015
  • Authorizing a Memorandum of Understanding to be executed between the City and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital related to the 340B Drug Pricing Program which allows hospitals that provide health care service to low-income individuals to receive discounted pricing on outpatient drugs from manufacturers.
  • The City Council also adopted an urgency ordinance placing a moratorium on the conversion of mobile home parks occupied by residents over the age of 55 years and updated Council Committee assignments for calendar year 2016.

  • Authorizing an agreement with Southern California Edison regarding design for a future utility undergrounding project along the Soledad Canyon corridor
  • Renewal of Landscape Maintenance District contracts with ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance, Inc.
  • Award of a contract with Oak Springs Nursery, Inc. for outdoor streetscape cleaning and landscape maintenance in the Downtown Newhall area.
  • The City Council also held a Public Hearing regarding adjustment to Consolidated Fire Protection District developer fees and discussed salary adjustments for future City Councils.
