Highlights of action taken include:
- Accepted the recommendation of the City Council Legislative Committee and adopted the Santa Clarita 2018 Legislative Platform.
- Adopted the Legislative Committee’s recommendation to support S. 1993 (Feinstein) and H.R. 4086 (Knight) related to the proposed expansion of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
- Awarded a two-year contract to provide maintenance services for Landscape Maintenance District Zones T-65 (Fair Oaks Ranch), T-65A (The Ranch at Fair Oaks), and T-33 (Canyon Park).
- Appointed Councilmember Marsha McLean to the Santa Clarita Board of Library Trustees for a three-year term, expiring June 30, 2020.
- Awarded contracts for the purchase and delivery of three Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered commuter buses and six CNG powered local buses.
- Approved the plans and specifications for the Highway Safety Improvement Program, Project C4014. This project will modify the traffic signal at the intersection of Seco Canyon Road and Garzota Drive to provide protected left-turn phasing for northbound and southbound movements.
- Adopted a resolution amending the budgets for Fiscal Years 2016-17 and 2017-18.
- Held a public hearing and passed to a second reading an ordinance adding Section 17.38.075 of Chapter 17.38 to Title 17 of the Santa Clarita Municipal Code establishing a senior mobilehome park overlay zone.
- During the special meeting, Laurene Weste was appointed Mayor and Marsha McLean was appointed Mayor Pro Tem.

- City staff was recognized for receiving the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. This is the seventh time the City has received this award in recognition of the City’s purchasing policies and practices.
- Approved an agreement with the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging to support additional wellness programs, transit-related services, and home-delivered meals for seniors.
- Established 560 feet of no-parking zone between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on school days along the south side of Deputy Jake Drive between Matthew Place and McGrath Elementary School.
- Took positions on the following legislative bills: AB 182 (Waldron); AB 1408 (Calderon); SB 167 (Skinner); SB 268 (Mendoza); and SB 540 (Roth).
- Provided direction on the design revision of the front panel of the Fallen Veterans Monument.
- Adopted a resolution to approve the construction and operation of a heliport as part of the proposed new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
- Approved the acquisition of 1.6+/- acres adjacent to the future Canyon Country Community Center.

The following is the recap from the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 2017:
Highlights of action taken include:
- Approved the plans and specifications for the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project over the San Francisquito Creek.
- Adopted a resolution to create a new zone in Landscape Maintenance District No. 1, Zone 32 (Vista Canyon Ranch).
- Approved an amendment to the 2016-17 Municipal Law Enforcement Services Agreement for one additional Motor Deputy.
- Nominated and approved appointments to the Planning Commission, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, Arts Commission, Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel, and the City’s appointment to the Los Angeles County Vector Control Board.

FUTURE MEETINGS
A special meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall for the purpose of considering candidates and potentially appointing a new member to serve on the City Council.
Regular City Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
