Michael Villegas

Director of Neighborhood Services

Michael Villegas began his career with the City of Santa Clarita in February 2017 in the City’s Community Preservation Division. Prior to his current role, Michael served as the Assistant to the City Manager in the City Manager’s Office, managing a variety of complex projects Citywide, serving as the City’s Budget Officer, and briefly serving as City Librarian, overseeing the management and operations of the Santa Clarita Public Library system. Additionally, Michael served as Community Preservation Manager for over two years, maintaining oversight of the City’s Code Enforcement, Graffiti Removal, Parking Enforcement, Animal Care and Control, and Community Development Block Grant program functions. This included serving as the City’s liaison to the Community Taskforce on Homelessness.

Michael has been appointed to serve as the Interim Director of the Neighborhood Services Department, overseeing the City’s Environmental Services, Facilities Maintenance, Parks, and Parks Planning and Open Space divisions.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Northridge. He also completed the Leadership Decision Making program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education. Michael also serves on the Board of Directors for Bridge to Home.

The Neighborhood Services Department is responsible for developing and administering sustainability and pollution prevention programs, maintaining over 60 City facilities, upkeeping and caring for the City’s 40 park sites, and preserving the City’s 13,000 acres of open space, among numerous other initiatives, all aimed at maintaining a high-quality of life in Santa Clarita. Additionally, Neighborhood Services is tasked with delivering on a significant number of action items identified in the City’s five-year strategic plan, Santa Clarita Pathway Forward.
