Work on the Bouquet Canyon Project is underway and Bouquet Canyon Road is closed from Plum Canyon Road to David Way, with the detour routing access through Haskell Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive. The City of Santa Clarita recognizes that construction impacts daily life for the residents who live and travel in the area of Bouquet Canyon Road. Road closures, detours and construction activity create real inconvenience. We want to acknowledge that openly.
Although it does not alleviate this temporary disruption, the project will deliver long-term safety, traffic flow and flood protection improvements that have been part of the City’s long-range planning vision for more than six decades. Just as the Cross Valley Connector (completed in 2007) was once an item in the General Plan, it now provides improved travel from Interstate 5 to State Route 14 along Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road. The Bouquet Canyon Road realignment is a long-planned investment in the northeast part of our City to improve circulation into and out of the City.
Background
The Bouquet Canyon Project went through the City planning process beginning in 2018. Following several public notices, meetings, public outreach open houses, Planning Commission meetings and the City Council review the project and the Environmental Impact Report were approved on November 10, 2020.
Although the Bouquet Canyon Road realignment is identified in the City’s Circulation Element, the actual construction and accompanying community outreach was conditioned as part of the residential project. Lennar is the developer of the Bouquet Canyon Project.
The project includes:
- A new, straighter segment of Bouquet Canyon Road between Plum Canyon Road and Vasquez Canyon Road
- Full roadway improvements including raised medians, sidewalks and trails
- Construction of up to 375 for-sale homes
- Major public infrastructure improvements
- Reconfiguration and expansion of Bouquet Creek and the adjacent floodplain to improve flood control
Benefits: Safety & Long-Term Improvements
This realignment will provide:
Safer Travel
- A straighter roadway alignment
- Additional lanes
- Improved sight lines
- Enhanced local and regional connectivity
- Enhanced bicycle and pedestrian mobility
- New trails and trail connections
- Sidewalks
Flood Protection
- Expansion of the flood control channel from approximately 40 feet to 120 feet wide
- Deepening of the channel from 6 feet to 17 feet
- Improved stormwater conveyance capacity
- Reduced long-term flood risk in a FEMA-designated floodplain
The existing flood control channel beneath the current bridge is severely undersized. Both FEMA and Los Angeles County Flood Control have identified this area as being within a floodplain. Expanding the channel is critical to protecting surrounding neighborhoods and roadway infrastructure.
Detour Information
Closure of Bouquet Canyon Road is necessary for two major components:
- Removal and reconstruction of the existing Bouquet Canyon Road bridge
- Final expansion of the Los Angeles County Flood Control channel
The detour is not solely for construction of the new roadway alignment. It is also required to complete the flood control channel expansion safely.
The roadway closure is currently in effect (February 2026), and will remain closed for approximately 11 months.
During this time, traffic will be routed around the closure area.
Benz Road Gate Access
To prevent cut-through neighborhood traffic during the detour:
- An access gate has been installed on Benz Road
- The gate is currently active
Residents within the designated impacted area have received vehicle headlamp tags to automatically open the gate. Please be respectful of neighbors in this area.
To request a vehicle tag:
- Complete the form at http://city.sc/BenzTag
- Each vehicle must be registered to an eligible parcel address
- A copy of the vehicle registration must be submitted
Your request will be reviewed by City staff and, if approved, the vehicle headlamp tag(s) will be delivered to the address provided.
Timeline
- Winter 2026: Demolition of existing bridge begins
- February 13, 2026: Road closure and detour implemented
- February 17, 2026: Benz Road gate activated
- Estimated duration: 11 months
The developer is committed to maintaining the schedule and minimizing delays wherever possible. The City of Santa Clarita is closely monitoring progress and ensuring construction only occurs during approved hours. To report construction concerns you can reach the developer at (661) 499-2198 or info@bouquetcanyonroad.com or reach the City by contacting Adam Lewis, Associate Engineer, at (661) 255-4966 or alewis@santaclarita.gov.
Emergency Response and Notifications
Public safety remains a priority. The City and the developer have worked with our public safety partners to ensure they have access to the gate at Benz Road and are aware of the road changes in the area.
